Red Raiders Make Good Competitors

The Texas Tech Red Raiders participate in 17 varsity teams as well as 30 club sports. Scarlet and black are the team’s colors and fans wear either those colors or Texas Tech merchandise in general. The team play in the Big 12’s South Division.
The Southwest Conference discontinued in the mid 1990s. Texas Tech and three other universities joined with the teams in the Big 8 Conference to create what is now the Big 12.
The men’s basketball team has the winningest coach. It is no surprise that the Red Raiders have sold a lot of Texas Tech belts. Bob Knight coached from 2001 to 2008. Pat Knight, Bob’s son, took over as coach after his dad retired.
Bob retired in February 2008. He won a total of 880 games during his coaching career, making him have the most wins in all of men’s college basketball.
The university offers non-traditional club sports in equestrian, lacrosse, polo, rodeo, and rugby.
Baseball is the 3rd oldest sport at the university. Many fans have a Texas Tech blanket.
Wes Kittley coaches the cross country team as well as the track and field teams.
The men’s team earned 91 All-America awards, twenty Big 12 championships, as well as a national title. The women’s team earned 32 All-America awards, twenty-nine Big 12 championships, and five national titles. With all this success, it’s obvious that fans would buy lots of Texas Tech gifts.
The men’s golf team competed in their first two consecutive National Championships tournaments. The last time they did that was in 1960. Greg Sands’ coaches the team that qualified for the tournament after coming in 7th place in the Central Regional competition.
Tim Siegel has helped the Red Raiders to many winning seasons. Many of the fans have a Texas Tech shirt. He has been coaching there for 15 years. Siegel has coached players who now are college coaches.
