They Know How To Win
Alabama has been a football school for the longest time. The men’s baseball team has not been really noticed because of their great football team. In both sports their fans support the teams with Alabama Crimson Tide merchandise. In 2002, they briefly had a number 1 ranking.
Billy Donovan is in his 13th season of coaching the Florida Gators men’s basketball team. He is one of the best coaches the school has ever had. Many fans have a customized jersey with his name on it as part of their Florida Gators merchandise. The team never won their conference title but won the regular season title several times. This is strange.
The men’s basketball team surprised many. The team started off 17-0, which was the best in school history. The team was young and led by four sophomores. The team wasn’t ranked in the preseason but the proved that they should have been ranked. They won back-to-back national championships. Billy Donovan led the Gators to the NIT Semifinals last year in what was a rebuilding year.
Amanda Butler is the head coach of the women’s basketball team. Women’s basketball was approved in the 1970s. The team began to play a year later. Their women’s team is often overlooked because of Tennessee and Georgia. They are in the same division as them. They are all on the national stage but Tennessee and Georgia get more national spotlight.
Carol Ross was the winningest coach in the women’s basketball history at Florida before she starting coaching at the Ole Miss.
Coach Andy Landers began coaching the women’s basketball team at Georgia in 1979. He led them to seven regular-season SEC titles and 4 SEC tournament championships. He coached them to 5 Final Four tournaments and to 23 NCAA tournaments. He is the coach with the most wins never to have won it all. Some people had their own jersey made with his name on it as part of their Georgia Bulldogs merchandise.
The men’s basketball team is often overlooked because of the history of the women’s team.
Trent Johnson coaches the men’s basketball team. He helped the team get ranked nationally for a while in the 2008-09 season. There was a ton of LSU Tigers merchandise seen at the road games because the Tigers fans wanted their team to go up in the national rankings.
Rick Barnes is one of Texas’s best men’s basketball coaches. There have been many all-star type players that have left Texas while he was coaching them. At any of those games, you are very likely to see some Texas Longhorns merchandise featuring ex-players.
